Missing persons
The Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, in accordance with its competences, cooperates with institutions and organizations responsible for searching for missing persons in BiH, as well as with associations of families of missing persons in BiH.
Since 2016, the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, within its budget, provides grant funds to support the work of associations of families of missing persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the end of 2020, a total of 210,000 KM was provided for the implementation of projects of the association of families of missing persons. The association's projects, which are financed by the MLJPI, additionally provide psychosocial and other forms of support to the families of missing persons, carry out various activities to promote the rights of the families of missing persons and support the process of searching for missing persons.
In order to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of the war conflicts in the territory of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and the expressed need for cooperation in the search for missing persons and affirming the right of families to learn the truth about their missing member, Bosnia and Herzegovina has signed 3 protocols in the search for missing persons at the regional level, as follows:
Protocol on Cooperation in the Search for Missing Persons with the Republic of Serbia; (Bosnian)
Protocol on Cooperation in the Search for Missing Persons with the Republic of Croatia; (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian)
Protocol on Cooperation in the Search for Missing Persons with Montenegro; (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian)
In order to implement the signed protocols, in July 2019, the Working Rules and Procedures for the Implementation of the Protocol on Cooperation in the Search for Missing Persons were signed in Sarajevo between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Council of Ministers of BiH, as well as the Rules of Procedure between the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH and the Ministry of Croatian Veterans of the Republic of Croatia for the Implementation of the Protocol on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Council of Ministers of BiH.
